China Leads the Way in Precision Medicine

The study of Human Genomes is deemed as the future of medicine. Every individual possesses different genes. Treatments tailor-made for the disease based on an individual’s genetics is referred to as precision medicine. Precision medicine helps in developing therapies that possess a higher chance of treating diseases more effectively. It helps eliminate the risk of being prescribed with treatments that aren’t effective.

China is making significant investments in the research of human genomes to make medical treatments for individuals easier. Genetic data is gathered and studied which enables to make a more specific diagnosis. The treatments are then tailored based on the individual’s genes and diagnosis. The world’s largest genetic data sequences and archive of genetic materials are collected by the Beijing Genome Institute located in China. The GeneBank in China has around five hundred million genetic materials of around nine thousand species in its reserve.

China is considered as the global leader in precision medicine and human genome studies. It continues to enhance its investment in research of human genetics to comprehend the biological make-up of individuals. Some of the main investment areas include top-of-the-line data collection and analysis instruments and preeminent computing abilities to narrow down research from large data quantities. China has also deemed precision medicine as a significant part of its five-year plan. It is expected to make investments of over nine billion dollars. About 40 countries are estimated to have precision medicine initiatives however, China’s is considered to be the largest out of all. Even though USA spends millions of dollars on its precision medicine initiative, it’s not even close to the efforts China is making. As for every $1 spent by the US, China spends $43.

China has also helped make precision medicine more effective through Artificial Intelligence Systems that help develop new medicines and treatments for the right patients. One such company that incorporates AI with genetic research is the iCarbonX. This Chinese company gathers the genetic data of millions of individuals. It then incorporates Artificial Intelligence to generate the best therapies and treatment plans based on a 360-degree view of each patient. Two other companies that have taken significant interest in precision medicine are Wuxi Nextcode and Huawei. They entered a partnership agreement for the development of data computing systems for the storage of the immense genetic data required for precision medicine.
